It is said that in the month of June evil befalls the students of Olabisi Onabanjo University. Talking about evil, several finalist students on campus have lost their precious lives in one tragic way or the other while several others are befallen with accidents causing serious damages to parts of their bodies.
Folks in OOU remember the great June 26 accident that claimed the lives of eight students of the school.
OOU JUNE 26: I REMEMBER!
I remember today, 26th of June marks the anniversary of the death of eight students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. They died in a ghastly motor accident along Sagamu-Benin Express way.
I remember they were all in a relieved spirit after combating the second semester examination, they never knew they were never going to write another neither will they get to see their families. Eight students died mercilessly on the express road.
Let me quickly give a brief story of the whole incident because I was opportune to report the story to a national newspaper.
I remember they were nine students on-board, namely; Eunice Odubanjo Oluwadamilola, Mariam Omolade Ogunnoki, Yetunde Aribiola Elizabeth, Suliat Adams Oluwatobi, funmilayo pampam Latifat, Chrsitiana Asade Ibunkun, Ayoola Sheriff Gbolahan, Olatunji Dairo and Ibunkun laughter Akinbo. Ibunkun was the only soul that escaped the motor accident.
It was gathered that the container-laden truck with number-plate BDG 779 XXE was driving on the opposite lane to avoid craters on its lane. The container fell on the Toyota Hiace bus which the students were in.
A day after the accident, the then student union government President, Adenola Adegbesan popularly known as Malcomzy led students of OOU to the accident scene, students wailed in tears as they saw remains of their colleagues.
What a sad day to remember, but where is the driver that drove the truck? Was compensation paid to the families of the bereaved? Was the driver or conpamy prosecuted? Or was compensation paid to the student union government? These are questions I need answers to.
Death oh death please run far from Olabisi Onabanjo University, we have had enough of you.
May the souls of those we loss on the 26th of June 2015 rest in perfect peace.
